Our Commitment to Being Green.

Being GreenFor over a decade, businesses and individuals have heightened their environmental awareness. This awareness has given rise to successful recycling programs and to campaigns to reduce the amount of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) found in many products. The Printing Crew has made a commitment as part of our ongoing “Keeping It Green†initiative to reduce our environmental impact by implementing the 4Rs program. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Reconsider.

We reduce the amount of VOCs released into the atmosphere by using several types of vegetable-based inks among them; linseed (flax), tung (china wood), safflower, canola, castor and soy. All of these are less harmful to the environment yet create rich, vivid colors on your printing projects. We specify low VOC vegetable based inks (which are actually lower in VOCs than soy), rather than only requesting soy based inks. We use chemical-free plate processing systems, and strictly use only EPA approved rag services.

Our inventory and scheduling practices are tightly controlled, we order only the quantities of supplies we need. We reduce our environmental impact by reusing and recycling all of our unused inks. We maintain weekly recycling pick up services for all of our waste paper, cardboard and plastics. We maintain a monthly aluminum recycling pick up service for our press plates. Our warehouse is set up with recycling stations (for cardboard, plastic and paper) at designated spots. We purchase recycled paper products whenever possible including office supplies.

Our everyday work practices have been reconsidered in order to make our office as green as possible. Here are a few changes we have implemented, and we encourage our employees to follow these practices at home as well. After all every little bit helps and together we can make a difference.

  •  Reduced our electrical consumption by switching over to energy efficient, energy-star approved CFL bulbs through all of our offices and warehouse area.
  •  Use power strips, so office personnel can easily shut off all of their electronics at the end of the day with just one switch.
  •  Turning off lights before employees depart for the evening in their specific departments.
  •  Setting programmable thermostats to 78 degrees during the day, and higher at night.
  •  Our cleaning staff uses natural or biodegradable cleaning products.
  •  Use of recycled paper in office copiers, fax machines, and interoffice documents.
